NEW: FOWL PLAY EXPECTED: Please click here for some additional rules.

This year as a fund raiser for the SHCA Trust's Education Fund, the Trust will hold its first Mini Rubber Dusky Derby in conjunction with the Siberian Husky Club of America's National Specialty, October 26 - 31, 2015, in Topeka, KS. Individuals and/or groups may donate to sponsor these adorable mini "Duskies" (half husky/half ducky) in race heats, with the winners competing in the race finals. Prizes will be awarded for the first three Duskies finishing the final race. As a thank you for your donation, each sponsor will be awarded his or her sponsored dusky(ies) at the conclusion of its final race.

Unable to attend this year's National? Not to worry, you may still sponsor a Dusky and participate from home.

Rules and Regulations appear below, and a copy is available for downloading at the right, along with the form to use if you wish to sponsor a dusky.

Please check back here periodically, as any updated information will be posted when available. We hope you join us for this fun event, and thank you, in advance, for your support of the SHCA Trust's Education activities.

SHCA Trust Presents
2015 MINI Rubber Dusky Derby

Rules and Regulations

  1. The Mini Rubber Dusky Derby will take place during the week of the SHCA National Specialty, October 26 through 31, 2015, in Topeka, Kansas.

  2. All Duskies will be provided by the organizer (no personal duskies will be allowed to compete).  A minimum donation of $10 is requested to sponsor a DuskyDusky sponsorship includes the entry of the Dusky in the Derby, and upon conclusion of the Derby final, the sponsored Dusky will become the property of the sponsor.  (The donation to sponsor a Dusky at the National will be $15.00 per Dusky.)

  3. A limited number of Duskies will be made available for sponsorship in advance of the event, with the balance available at the 2015 SHCA National Specialty.  Sponsors need not be present for their duskies to compete and/or win.  Anyone wishing to sponsor in abstentia should make arrangements with a friend who will act as agent for the transport of the dusky and possible prizes upon conclusion of the Derby.

  4. If the “Sponsor” is comprised of more than one individual, it is believe that the individual completing the sponsorship form and signing the agreement speaks for ALL individual members of the sponsoring group.

  5. A sequentially assigned number will be attached to each dusky corresponding to the number on the sponsor form.  Should an individual sponsor multiple Duskies and wish them to compete in different heats, the Race Committee will attempt to arrange this.  Positive identification will be required to claim any prize won.

  6. Chances of winning depend on the estimated total of sponsorable duskies, which is expected to be 100, and the conditions of the “race course.”

  7. It is our current plan to run the Derby in ten heats of ten Duskies per heat; with the winner of each heat competing in the Final Derby Race.  All Duskies will race the same distance.  And, although every attempt will be made to duplicate the conditions for each heat and the final, no guarantee can be made regarding race conditions.

  8. Competing Duskies in all heats and the final will be launched in the Dusky pond and the first Dusky reaching the finish line will be declared the winner.  Duskies need not remain upright during the race to compete and/or win.  The Race Marshall shall have the final word on results.

  9. Anyone attempting to cheat by trying to free or help a Dusky, or hinder or interfere with a competing Dusky will be fined $5 for attempting to free or help a Dusky, $10 for attempting to interfere or hinder a competing Dusky, and repeated fines could result in disqualification.  Only the Race Committee is permitted to free any Dusky, or to manually maneuver Duskies along the course.

  10. Should any heat or the final be unable to be conducted successfully, winner(s) will be selected by random drawing by the Race Committee.

  11. By entering, winners consent to the promotional use of their names and likenesses.

  12. Prizes will be awarded to the Duskies finishing First, Second, and Third in the final race.

  13. Prizes will be awarded to the Sponsors of the winning Duskies or their named Agents.
